I post the definition of being a bully because the fact the social media/network thinks Dan Savage was being a bully to those 22 students who walked out on one of his speeches when he called some of the stuff in the bible “bull-shit” and the fact the bible is the reason homophobia still exist today causing young lgbtq kids to take there lives. This seminar he was speaking at was for young journalist who wish to be journalist in the future. Savage apologized for calling them Pansy Asses but not what he said about the bible and I completely agree with Dan Savage.
Complaint One: If you want to be a journalist and you are easily offended then this profession isn’t for you because chances are in journalism your going to hear people say a lot of stuff that will offend you.
Complaint Two: The definition of being a bully is “A person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.” Dan Savage didn’t force the students to stay and listen to him speak, he did not physically attack anybody or over power weaker people in his audience therefore he wasn’t being a bully.
Complaint Three: Dan Savage was speaking about what he knows about and I’ve heard his speeches before and there very progressive and very raw and he does’t hold back about issues he talks about lgbtq issues, religion, sex, and relationship advice. And if you didn’t do your research about Dan Savage before you heard him speak then you kinda suck as a journalist already.
Well thats my rant Im just tired of people trying to turn Dan Savage into this bad guy but in reality he is doing good stuff for the lgbtq community and making sex not such a taboo topic for the US because our country is the only country that is sex concession. And he is a great example of what a “Modern Family” looks like. So please my lgbtq community pick your battles Dan Savage isn’t the enemy ignorant people are.
